Other events

Some events were planned over the last 2 years but were unable to go ahead owing to Covie-19 restrictions.   The concerts from our Affiliated Society, New London and from Leon, Russell, Elinor and Sylvia,  are a response from members asking for more from these groups.

Dr. John Snelson was recommended by Sarah Lenton following her very popular Zoom lecture last year.  He is an expert on all matters relating to the Theatre and has a great interest in Gilbert and Sullivan. Sarah has done many double-handed lectures with him for the Royal Opera House and the Art Society.  She admires his ability to make material accessible and entertaining and that he held her spellbound as he whizzed through  Iolanthe showing brilliant use of Wagner, Mendelssohn and others greatly helped by his ability to talk and play the piano at the same time.

We have some exciting plans for our Sullivan birthday meeting, a month early so we don’t clash with the Manchester Convention.  We will put  details once confirmed,  in our Winter Edition of the G&S News.

Along with Leon Berger, we are also very grateful to fellow Vice Presidents, Simon Butteriss and Andrew Goodman for contributing to our programme for what, we are sure will be entertaining and memorable events.  Bruce Graham has also agreed, engagements permitting, along with his wife, Caroline, to be two of our special guests for our October Zoom event.

International G&S Day has now been postponed twice after being fully booked for May 2020.  As we go to press there are no spaces available as all bookings have been carried over.  However spaces could arise nearer the time so it may be worth getting in touch (see below)  if you are keen to attend by asking to join the waiting list.  The price is £10 which includes a G&S themed buffet lunch.

Our Chairman, John Penn, will continue to email members prior to meetings along with updates that we think may be of interest to members.  If you have not been receiving emails over the last year, then we almost certainly don’t have your current email address.  Please get in touch with Angie Penn so we can add you to the far from little list and you won’t miss out.  These emails are sent blind copy and run approximately once a month  during the period of our programme.
