Gilbert & Sullivan legend Richard Suart will be telling us all about his long and brilliant professional career immersed in the universe of Opera and, particularly, the world of Gilbert & Sullivan.
This is a unique opportunity to meet the man himself and there will be a special Q&A session at the end; when you will be able to ask him specific questions regarding his numerous roles, his acting and singing techniques or, maybe, his secret professional tips for enhancing your performance.

Richard Suart was born in Blackpool in 1951. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music where he was elected a Fellow in 2004.
He has given world première performances of Mark-Anthony Turnage’s Greek, Harrison Birtwhistle’s Yan Tan Tethera and The Masque of Orpheus, Benedict Mason’s Playing Away, and Param Vir’s Snatched by the gods, and Broken Strings. He sang Peter Maxwell Davies’s Eight Songs for a Mad King in the QEH with Opera Factory, with further productions in Gelsenkirchen, Helsinki, Paris, Strasbourg, Milan and Stavanger. He sang in Ligeti’s Le Grand Macabre at the Salzburg Festival and the Châtelet.
He has been a member of the D’Oyly Carte since 1988, and has now sung a principal role in every Savoy Opera. With ENO he has sung in The Mikado, Princess Ida, The Pirates of Penzance and Trial by Jury. He understudied for Patience in 1984; with WNO The Yeomen of the Guard (also at the ROH!); with Scottish Opera The Gondoliers and Utopia Limited; Iolanthe at The Grange Festival and San Francisco; Thespis in Twickenham; Ruddigore for Opera Holland Park and H.M.S. Pinafore and The Sorcerer for Charles Court Opera. To complete the canon he sang the title role in The Grand Duke at the Finborough.
Recent engagements include Candide at The Hollywood Bowl, Tanglewood and The Grange Festival where he also sang Colonel Pickering in My Fair Lady; Benoit in La Bohème at Glyndebourne, and Maestro Spinelloccio in Gianni Schicchi for Scottish Opera. In March he sang in Fault Lines for the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in four mines in Cornwall; he will rejoin CCO for performances of The Sorcerer in June, before appearing at Grange Park in Island of Dreams. In December he will rejoin ENO for The Pirates of Penzance, and next year returns to Scottish Opera for Trial by Jury.
He has written two books inspired by his 30 years of singing Ko-Ko at ENO. ‘They’d None Of Them Be Missed’ (2008) and ‘Mikado Memories’ (2019).
