Andrew Goodman with Stuart Box in 2011 at the launch of his book on Gilbert

"A most intense young man"

A presentation from Gilbert expert, Andrew Crowther on the young William Gilbert before his collaboration with Arthur Sullivan.

Andrew Crowther is Secretary of the W.S. Gilbert Society and has long been seen as a Gilbert scholar and expert on his life and works.  Despite his comparative youth,  he published 'Gilbert of Gilbert and Sullivan: His life and character' in 2011 which we were pleased to launch at a G&S Society meeting.  The photo above is from this event and shows Andrew with Stuart Box.

This event will explore the 'young Gilbert' looking at his time prior to the Savoy Opera including his beginnings as a playwright on the 188th anniversary of Gilbert's birth.
