'We have opinions of our own'
A concert version of The Zoo followed by a new, specially written programme by Vice-President, Leon Berger entitled G&S: Parodies and Homages.
Over the last few years, baritone Leon with Russell Painter (tenor), Elinor Jane Moran (soprano) and Joanna Gamble (contralto) have given us a number of very popular concerts featuring rarities from Gilbert and Sullivan together and apart. This time they are joined by guest star and Vice-President, Bruce Graham and accompanied by Tim Smith.
The Zoo is a one-act comic opera with music by Arthur Sullivan and a libretto by B.C. Stephenson, writing under the pen name of Bolton Rowe. It premiered in 1875 and is sometimes a curtain raiser G&S operas.
G&S: Parodies and Homages will look at musical pastiches of and tributes to, the Savoy Operas from the 19th Century to recent times with musical examples from the 5 singers.
