After training at the Royal College of Music, Cynthia joined the D’Oyly Carte Opera company in May 1951. Starting as a chorister, she was soon understudying and playing small roles, becoming a principal soprano in 1954, and appearing as Yum-Yum, Rose Maybud, Lady Psyche, Phyllis and Patience. Leaving the company in 1957, she appeared in pantomime, summer revues and concerts, and in 1959 joined Sadler’s Wells, where she played leading roles in the Offenbach operettas, and Leila in the first out-of-copyright production of Iolanthe. Many West End musicals followed as well as tours of the USA, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.  Cynthia is an accomplished writer, has written 3 books about her life, a novel, a pantomime and produced John Reed's biography 'Nothing Whatever to Grumble at.  In 2012 Cynthia appeared in Dustin Hoffman’s film ‘Quartet’.  Previously a Vice President, Cynthia has been involved with the Society for over 60 years.
