Too young to join the original D’Oyly Carte, professional baritone and director, Leon Berger developed an early love of all things G&S and has had the privilege and pleasure to work with many of the stars of the D’Oyly Carte in subsequent companies; indeed, Tom Round secured his Equity card, and Donald Adams recommended him as principal patter man for English Heritage Opera at Grim’s Dyke, which he enjoyed for nearly 20 years.

With the Sir Arthur Sullivan Society, he has recorded Cox and Box, Kenilworth and A Society Clown (the songs of George Grossmith of which he is something of an expert) and with the W.S. Gilbert Society he recorded and project-managed a 2-CD boxset of The Bab Ballads

He has played many of the roles in the Savoy Operas and was pleased to take part in two centenary performances: as the Major in Patience and Ludwig in The Grand Duke.  He is in demand for Gilbert and Sullivan performances and productions up and down the country.  He is also the Archivist to Flanders & Swann and publishes, broadcasts and performs their music regularly.

The Gilbert and Sullivan Society is a charity registered in England and Wales - charity no. 1062970 This website was made possible by a generous legacy from Vice-President Peter Parker.
