Simon has sung the G&S patter roles at the Savoy Theatre, the BBC Proms and throughout the world. His interest in G&S started at Cambridge and along with being a very fine performer he is also a notable scholar which is particularly seen in the critically acclaimed television series about Gilbert and Sullivan, A Motley Pair which he wrote and presented.

He appeared in Mike Leigh’s Oscar-winning film, Topsy-Turvy and wrote and performed the television film about George Grossmith, A Salaried Wit.  He wrote, directed and played Grossmith in the Radio 4 series ‘I am the very Model of a Modern Major General’ and has recorded Grossmith’s operetta, Cups and Saucers (with Solomon and Burnand’s Pickwick).

He has also recorded Patience with D’Oyly Carte and made recordings of comic operas by Gilbert and Sullivan’s forebear, Charles Dibdin: Christmas Gambols, The Wags and The Jubilee and Rodwell's 19th century melodrama Jack Sheppard (Retrospect Opera). Simon has sung roles at La Scala Milan, Paris Chatelet, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Liceu Barcelona, is a regular principal at ENO; he has also worked extensively as an actor (West End, RSC, film and television) and has directed, written and translated for stage, screen and opera house including the G&S Festival in Buxton. His production of Der Mikado at the Opera House in Passau, Germany, which opened in March and plays in repertoire until June, has just won the Bayerische Rundfunk Operetta Award.
