GILBERT & SULLIVAN – Ruddigore; Halloween Special – Ghosts – £99PP

The bad baronet of Ruddigore is hiding in the small English village of Rederring, to escape a family curse.

Here Robin has fallen in love with Rose Maybud. Rose bases her ideas of right and wrong on a book of etiquette and is therefore unable to encourage the advances of any youths. Being too shy to develop a relationship with Rose, Robin calls upon Richard Dauntless who offers to speak to Rose on Robin’s behalf. Overcome by Rose’s beauty, Richard sets about capturing her for himself and nearly succeeds in doing so, until Robin finally declares his love for her and wins her back. Richard has his revenge and reveals that Robin is none other than the true baronet of Ruddigore, and as such the rightful inheritor of the curse.

Rose, of course, could never marry a Bad Baronet and falls back into the arms of a well-pleased Richard. Will Robin be able to carry out his duties of committing a crime a day or will he find a way to win back Rose once more?
