The library is a specialist reference collection with books covering all aspects of Gilbert and Sullivan. It is a major part of the Society outreach activity and is available to both members and non-members. The collection comprises many significant historical texts and most books relating to Gilbert and Sullivan published during the last 50 years.

It houses over 250 books include recent publications, standard references, works from earlier generations and a comprehensive range of libretti and scores. Recent additions have extended the collection to Gilbert and Sullivan opera full scores including the Broude series. 

The works are available for reference only. They are accessed on request from a member of staff.

From the earliest days of the Society, scholarship into Gilbert, Sullivan, the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company and the background to the Operas has been an object of the Society  and our extensive collection is integral to this.

The Barbican Complex is housed in the heart of the City of London. Moorgate and Barbican Underground stations are within close walking distance. The Society’s Library is located in the Barbican Music Library, downstairs from the Main Library. The address is Silk Street, EC2 8DS.
